Staff Biographies

Jim Allison is the Executive Director for the Career Center. Jim earned his Bachelor’s degree in English from Wake Forest University in North Carolina and a second degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He earned his Master’s in Counseling with a concentration in Student Development in Higher Education.  Before joining College of Charleston, Jim served as the Director of the Center for Career Development at Washington College where he was also a pre-law advisor. Jim worked as Associate Director at the University of Evansville in Indiana, where he served as President of the Indiana Association for Employment in Education. In addition, at Elon University, Jim served as an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Center for Career Development. He was also the liaison to the Love School of Business at Elon University, specializing in experiential education and student professional development. 

Hannah Beam is the Student Employment Specialist/JLD Coordinator. Hannah received a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management with an emphasis in Event Planning from the University of Missouri. Her previous experience includes two years as the Office Manager of the College of Charleston Career Center and three years as a Coordinator and Senior Enrollment Specialist at Columbia College in Columbia, MO. When not at work she enjoys reading, exploring Charleston, and spending time with her husband and their two dogs. 

Meredith Gerber is the Associate Director for Career Education. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1998. After interning in the Office of Career Services at Tennessee Tech, she pursued a Master of Science in Counselor Education, specializing in Student Affairs Administration, at Radford University. While earning her master's degree, she worked as an academic advisor at Radford and interned in the Career Development Center at Hollins University. She was the Assistant Director in Career Services at Washington and Lee University. Prior to joining the Career Center in 2008, Meredith served as an academic advisor in the Academic Advising & Planning Center at CofC and Bloomsburg University.

Erin O'Dea Halford is the Employer Relations Manager. She received her Master of Education in Counseling and Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Providence College in Rhode Island. Erin has worked in career services in various capacities including career counseling, internship coordination, and employer relations. The former Internship Coordinator at College of Charleston in 2007, Erin went on to work for The Art Institute of Charleston and Northeastern University in Boston, MA before returning to College of Charleston.  

Cheryl Wingert is the Career Center's new Coordinator of the Student Employment Program. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Coker College and has 15 years' experience in higher education working in administrative support and career advising roles. She is a certified Global Career Development Facilitator and enjoys assisting the diverse population of students at CofC in their career preparation. Her previous experience includes a buyer role for Sonoco Products and recruiter for a mortgage loan operations company. She is active in the South Carolina Association of Colleges and Employers (SCACE) and enjoys walking, reading, and making art when not at work.

Elan Schappler is the Office Manager for the Career Center. Elan received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Elon University. She is a recent graduate and gained experience in higher education and the staffing industries before joining the College. When not at work, Elan enjoys exploring Charleston, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

Tyler Till  is a Career Counselor in the Career Center. Tyler received his Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from Auburn University, and his Masters in Counseling with a concentration in College Student Affairs from the University of West Georgia. During his time at UWG, he served as the Career Development Graduate Assistant. Before coming to The College, he worked as a Career Counselor at the University of Denver. Tyler also has student affairs experience in first year orientation, student leadership and residence life. 

Emma Waugh is a Career Counselor in the Career Center. Before starting her work at the College of Charleston, she worked in career development at the University of South Carolina College of Engineering and Computing. She also has three years of experience in K-12 public education in career services and is a certified Global Career Development Facilitator. Prior to entering the wonderful world of career services and higher education, Emma graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Master of Arts in Anthropology, and from University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. Though not currently a practicing anthropologist, she still enjoys experiencing all different cultures through travel, eating, and art.

Kristin Wichmann is the Experiential Learning Coordinator. She received her Master of Arts in Human Sciences from Hood College and her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Pennsylvania State University. Kristin previously served as the Internship Coordinator for the College of Charleston Department of Political Science and as the Career Center Recruiting Coordinator at Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland.
