  • Career Assessments are available to assist students in clarifying career fields and majors which relate to interests, values and skills. Appointments are required to take some of these assessments.
  • Appointments are available for students/alumni to discuss career options, choosing/changing a major or other career related concerns.
  • Career Planning Guide - You and/or your students may pick up a free copy of the Career Planning Guide from the Career Center. The guide is filled with information designed to assist students in every phase of the career decision-making process, from self-assessment to applying for jobs or graduate school.
  • What Can I Do With a Major In...? Provides information on each undergraduate major including typical career fields of graduates, types of employers, and strategies. Both on-line and print versions are available.
  • How to Choose a Major Seminar. A collaborative effort of the Career Center and the Center for Academic Advising, this seminar, offered each fall and spring semester, discusses the importance of self-assessment, the difference between a liberal arts and technical education, relating majors to careers, how to declare a major, and much more.
  • The Career Mentor Network allows students to talk with alumni from the College of Charleston who can share information and advice regarding their particular career field and other work related information.

Resumes/Job Search Correspondence/Interviewing

  • The Career Center provides many print and online resources to assist students in preparing resumes, cover letters, and other job search correspondence. Encourage your students to visit our office in order to take advantage of these resources.
  • Students may schedule an individual appointment or come by our office during our Walk-In hours (Monday - Friday 1-4 pm) in order to have a staff member review and critique their resume and/or cover letters.
  • Students may schedule a videotaped practice interview in order to sharpen their interview skills.

Finding Jobs and Internships

  • CISTERNonline, the Career Centers' online recruiting system, provides students and alumni the opportunity to search for internships, volunteer opportunities, seasonal, on and off campus part time jobs, and full time career opportunities that have been listed with the Career Center, as well as a national database of opportunities listed with the Experience Network, used by over 500 colleges/universities nationwide. All currently enrolled students may access CISTERNonline, and alumni may request access by contacting the Career Center. Employers are encouraged to contact the Career Center for information on how they may post opportunities with our office on CISTERNonline.
  • A campus wide Career & Graduate School Expo is held in the fall semester in order to connect students with hiring organizations, and FutureQuest is held in the spring semester in conjunction with The Citadel and Charleston Southern University. Education Career Fairs are also held each fall and spring semester in order for participating school district representatives to meet with students planning to teach.
  • Credential file services are available for any graduating senior who wishes to maintain official documents, such as letters of reference or college transcripts on file. These files may be sent to potential employers or graduate schools upon the student's request.
  • Students/alumni may schedule an individual appointment with a staff member in order to discuss job search strategies, interviewing skills, or other topics related to the successful transition to life after college.
