Student Employment at the College of Charleston provides students with the opportunity to explore career choices as well as gain critical skills to improve marketability for professional employment. Any registered student may apply for on-campus student employment. All students hired for on-campus positions must present original identification documents and a social security number.

Finding a Job: Handshake

There are a variety of on-campus opportunities including Non-Work Study, Federal Work Study, Community Service Federal Work Study, and Graduate Assistantships. For more information about these programs click here. Additionally, there are many off-campus job opportunities. To view all available job opportunities, log into Handshake. You may access Handshake from the "Student Services" tab in MyCharleston.

You're hired! Now what?

Congratulations on your position as a student employee at the College of Charleston! If you are a new student employee that has never worked on campus before, you will need to follow the steps below to complete the hiring process:

1.  Complete the New Student Employee Hire Packet
2.  Register to attend New Student Employee Orientation 

New Student Employee Hire Packet

All new student employees are REQUIRED to complete the following forms and bring them to New Student Employee Orientation.

1. Form I-9

 

This form must be accompanied by ORIGINAL identification documents of your choosing. See page 3 of the form for a list of acceptable documents. No copies will be accepted.
2. Form W-4             Please refer to the instructions on the Form W-4 or consult a parent/legal guardian or tax professional for assistance completing this form. Student Employment cannot advise you on how to complete this form. 

3. Direct Deposit Agreement

This form must be accompanied by a voided check or direct deposit form from your bank.
4. ACA Acknowledgement   Review and complete page 4. 

International students are required to have a US Social Security Card to work on-campus. For more information click here

New Student Employee Orientation

All new student employees are REQUIRED to attend New Student Employee Orientation BEFORE they begin working.

Select the orientation session below that works best with your schedule. If the session is full, select another session or call 843.953.5692 to schedule a one-on-one orientation. Orientation sessions generally last 30-45 minutes, so plan accordingly. All orientation sessions will take place in the Career Center (Lightsey Center Building, 2nd floor, room 216), unless otherwise indicated.
