Resume 101
Thursday, February 6th, 4:00 - 5:00 pm, Career Center
Facilitator: Cheryl Wingert, Career Advisor
Resumes are required for jobs, but also for internships, scholarships and entrance into colleges and graduate programs. This workshop is designed for students who have never written a resume or who have one but want to make it more effective. Students will learn the basic components of a resume and the importance of targeting the resume to their desired goals.

Fall 2014 FREE Practice Test for MCAT, LSAT, GRE, and DAT
Saturday, February 15th, location will be assigned when you register, see below
Students MUST register at least 48 hours before the exam to start the exam on time.  You may register at http://bit.ly/CofCFreePracticeTestFeb15th2014. The location of the test will be given when you register.  (Offered by Kaplan, not by the Career Center, please check the Kaplan website for details). 

Summer Job Fair

Job Search Strategies

Interested in getting a full or part-time job but unsure of where to start?  This session is designed to help students tackle the sometimes daunting process of searching for a job.  We will demonstrate how to use CISTERNonline, discuss the importance of utilizing self-assessment tools, provide tips on networking, and offer advice on how to get started with the overall process of job searching.

Cover Letter 101 and Resume Tips

Have you ever written a cover letter?  This workshop will help you learn what a cover letter is, what the basic components are, and why you should be writing them.  Additionally, this session will offer tips to build your resume in order to market yourself effectively to your audience.  Geared toward students who want to write effective cover letters and/or who want to enchance their resume as well as to students who have never written a resume.

Preparing for the Career Fair

Tips for Sealing the Deal in a Big Interview

Congratulations! You made a great impression on a potential employer or graduate school and you have been selected for an interview. Does this make you anxious or unsure of how to prepare for it? If so, grab a seat for this session to gain valuable tips for nailing both telephone and in-person interviews.  These employers will be able to answer questions and provide tips on how to successfully make a positive impression in an interview.

LinkedIn for Networking and Job Search

You’re on Facebook, but are you on LinkedIn? Perhaps you have a profile but haven’t really explored how to use LinkedIn to your benefit. Join us to learn how to use the broad reach of LinkedIn to enhance your professional reputation and assist you in effectively networking for jobs, internships, or other career related information and lead.

Before attending this session, we recommend that you: 1) sign up for a LinkedIn account, 2) add at least one job, internship or position to your profile, 3) join at least one group (select Groups from the drop down menu “Interests” and search for College of Charleston Alumni & Student Career Network group as a starting point).

Non-Career Center Sponsored Events

Trident United Way 2-1-1 Hotline Training

The 2-1-1 Hotline provides 24 hour general counseling, crisis intervention and information referral.  This training provides students (ideal for those majoring in sociology, psychology or other human services field) the opportunity to develop and practice valuable listening skills; understand and help with social issues and problems; generate great resume and grad school application material, and make a difference in the lives of others!  Training will begin in June 2014 with the following schedule:

  • June 3, 6-9 pm Introduction
  • June 7 & 8, 10 am - 5 pm, general counseling skills
  • June 21 & 22, 9 am - 5 pm, applied suicide intervention skills training
